Which Session Is Right For Me: A "Mini" Session or Full Session?
Updated: Oct 5, 2020
"Mini" sessions can be a Muse's best friend! If you're not familiar with what a "Mini" session is and if it is the right choice for you, you're in the right spot.
Very simply stated: "Mini" sessions are photography sessions that are offered by a Photographer at a reduced cost, in a short amount of time. For some people, "Mini" sessions can be a good choice (as opposed to a full portrait session), for several reasons, especially the ones listed below.

1. Mini sessions are great for capturing you and your loved ones just as they are. Because "Mini" sessions can be anywhere from 15-30 minutes long, the session goes incredibly fast and can be a little more unpredictable than full session. Although your Photographer will always set your shots up to ensure they look professional, the images will generally lean more towards the candid side meaning "little Josh" may or may not be smiling in all the images. But hey- that's the fun of it all. Allowing everyone to be themselves. If you’re looking for more of an opportunity to capture the images exactly like you want- a "Mini" session may not be the best option for you.
2. "Mini" sessions are great if you’re on a tighter budget. Again, "Mini" sessions are usually offered at a lower cost by the Photographer. This is great if you only want a few images and/or if you want to test the waters of seeing how a particular Photographer/session/ or location is. However, do keep in mind, the product offerings or variety of capabilities may be limited at this price point.
3. "Mini" sessions are great if you have a busy schedule and can only spare a few minutes out of your day! One thing to keep in mind is "Mini" sessions are geared towards those that are successful with arriving ON TIME. When scheduling a "Mini" session, you must keep in mind that these sessions don't last long and move fairly swift. It is very important to not only arrive on time, but at least 15 minutes early. The other thing that you must keep in mind is that although "Mini" sessions may be offered a few times a year, they are offered on a limited basis, meaning that if you miss your opportunity, you may not have the opportunity to reschedule. Or the next "Mini" session offered may be theme based versus location based. Which leads to my last point....
4. "Mini" sessions are great if you’re looking to add variety to your annual family or couple photo collection. If you would like to have images with various themes and locations, "Mini" sessions offer just that, as they are often centered around seasons and holidays. This is especially great if you like to send out greeting cards or announcements.
Again, the key to choosing "Mini" sessions is being open to variety and adventure- at a fraction of the cost. "Minis" are definitely a way to go for your next photo session!
